Bar Gumbo

Description

Since opening in February 2013, Bar Gumbo has earned itself a solid reputation as a jovial neighbourhood bar in the West End, offering friendly banter, blinding live music and Glasgow's version of Louisiana soul food. With a stateside jazz club vibe, Bar Gumbo has exposed brick walls and vinyl records covering the ceiling. Swampy decor includes raw wooden features and a stock of dense foliage worthy of the bayou. But this is more than just a themed bar, this place takes its ode to New Orleans seriously with a jammed roster of cracking musical talent, banging out tune after tune with jazz, blues, soul and reggae.

A multi-cultured cocktail list involves all manner of exotic concoctions, from, the Persian Julip (served in a teapot and described as an Iranian twist on the Kentucky classic) to the classic, but no less delicious, Louisiana Jam. With grub inspired by America's deep south, and the various cultures that collect there, Bar Gumbo serves up an ever-evolving selection of food. House specialties include pulled pork, shrimp gumbo, Southern style mac and cheese and Cajun catfish, along with cornbread and the famed po' boy sandwiches.
