Guong Hei Fat Choi!

The year of the Monkey is nearly here and you are all invited to enter the Jade door on Gerrard Street to come and celebrate the New Year with Opium Cocktail & Dim Sum Parlour!

As well as Monkey head cocktails and traditional dim sum to enjoy, you can expect fortune tellers, magicians, firework cocktails, red envelopes, lashing of lanterns, fortune cookies, plenty of high spirits and frivolity.

Events will be taking place in Opium and its hidden bar Peony all week. The plan is to celebrate from New Year’s Day on Monday 8th until Sunday 14th February, when the parade and traditional celebrations are held in Chinatown. If you are curious about what the year of the Monkey will hold for you come and have your palm read by Peter Tran on Monday 8th and Friday 12th. Prepare yourself to astonished, astounded, and gasp with amazed delight as close up magician and ‘mentalist’ Edward Crawford will be wowing you all on Saturday 13th.

We will be supported by Chivas Regal who will be hosting a master class like no other in Peony on Tuesday 9th from 6pm. ‘The Chivas Art of Blending’ will teach you how to create a great cocktail and also let you blend your own Whisky to take home. Tickets are £50 each and this includes two cocktails, Dim Sum and your own personal blended Whisky (plus a few sample drams too).

Tsingtao 1903 will be spreading New Year good fortune all week with very special red envelopes for each person who enjoys a drink at Opium. Within some of the Huongbau envelopes will be chance to win a free 1903 or ‘Lucky Cocktail’.

We strongly recommend pre-booking, as you would expect Chinatown will be brimming over with even more hustle and bustle than usual. Opium will open from 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 2pm on Sunday 14th. There is no better place to celebrate Chinese New Year, book now to avoid missing out!

Situated in the heart of Chinatown, Opium is a multi-roomed venue that sprawls over three floors. This has allowed Eric Yu, Martin Malley and Dre Masso to create the unique Bartender’s Table, (situated in The Academy), as well as The Apothecary Bar, where spirits are dispensed from Chinese medicine bottles, and ‘Peony’ the hidden bar within Opium itself. All allowing them to showcase great cocktails, teas and Dim Sum in a setting like no other in London.

Time Out ‘This place is Eastern smoking den meets Western hipster hangout. Very theatrical….but that’s nothing on the drinks. 4 Stars’

BuzzFeed selected Peony as one of the top bars in London to visit in 2016
