Best Christmas Things To Do In Belfast
Belfast Christmas Market 2024
16th November to 22nd December
Returning to the grounds outside City Hall for its 20th year, Belfast Christmas Market is embracing a Dickensian theme this year. On the first and third weekend that it's open, you'll find characters from his famous novels roaming the streets, with engaging storytelling sessions and live performances to bring his work to life.
They'll also be offering all the usual attractions, with independent stalls selling artisan gifts and handcrafted products. There'll also be a number of local food and drink vendors, serving up everything from juicy burgers to hot mugs of Glühwein. That's not all though, as you can take a ride on their vintage carousel, slide down the helter-skelter or even pay a visit to Santa's grotto.
Enchanted Winter Garden
29th November to 21st December
Taking place in Antrim Castle Gardens just outside the city, Enchanted Winter Garden is a magical Christmas experience for all ages, promising gorgeous festive light displays and a mystical woodland lined with glowing fairy lights.
Their Festive Food Fayre features local vendors selling mouthwatering street food, with plenty of seasonal treats thrown in too. Nab tokens for their fairground rides, and be sure to check out Santa's grotto as well.
Christmas Lights Switch On
16th November, 6.30 to 7.30pm
This year, the Belfast Christmas Lights are being switched on on Saturday 16th November. The Lord Mayor of Belfast will be turning them on, accompanied by performances from The MAC’s Christmas pantomime (The Adventures of Red Riding Hood), choirs, acrobatic shows and live music from alt-pop artist Sasha Samara.
This event takes place outside Belfast City Hall, and the lights stretch along Donegall Square North and Donegall Place. Tickets are free, but make sure to book ahead as they sell out fast. And Afterwards, why not stop in for a cosy pint at the nearby Crown Liquor Saloon to warm up?
Titanic Belfast Christmas Experience
27th November to 23rd December
One of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, Titanic Belfast is a great choice for festive days out. Their Magical Christmas Experience takes you on a 60-minute journey through an Enchanted Forest, before visiting the Elves' Workshop, feeding reindeer and meeting Mrs Claus.
Tickets cost £25 for under 13s, and £12.50 for adults. This includes shortbread and drinks on arrival, as well as sweet treats from the elves. Your little ones can also take part in seasonal games and activities, Christmas crafts and storytelling sessions - before leaving with an individual photo with Father Christmas and a gift to take home.
A Christmas Carol at The Lyric
30th November to 11th January
A timeless tale that has been synonymous with Christmas for over a century, A Christmas Carol is coming to The Lyric Theatre this winter. Enjoy the classic story of Ebeneezer Scrooge as he is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve, who aim to change his miserable outlook on the festive season.
Tickets range from £15 to £32 per person, suitable for adults and children over eight years old. Actors like Richard Clements and Matthew Forsythe will be taking to the stage, in what's sure to be an unforgettable play.
