Hidden away in Birmingham's bustling business district, this new cocktail bar and deli should be high on your radar as the new place to go in Birmingham. Combining cocktails and hot dogs, we think they're onto a winner.
The Venue
Set in an old Bureau (hence the name), the masterminds behind this new venture have made the most of the beautiful building and its existing features to create a stylish sanctuary for Birmingham’s cocktail lovers. With marble walls, sleek wooden floors and plush leather sofas, The Bureau oozes sophistication, class and most importantly, comfort.
The Drink
Flick through their extensive, leather-bound cocktail book and you'll be spoilt for choice; with everything from the classics and innovative smoked cocktails to their own interesting creations, all averaging at a very reasonable £6-6.50. Indulge in a 'Chocolate Egg' or be daring and order the mysterious sounding 'Elixir No.6'. Having made my way through a fair few of their cocktails (it had to be done!), I can vouch that every single once was amazing.
Can't decide between all the tempting sounding creations? Ask the skilful bartender to experiment and create something new for you; experiencing flavour combinations that will blow your mind. For these professional cocktail makers, this is an art, and their passion for what they do shines through with the delicious, exquisite cocktails they produce.
The Atmosphere and Clientele
Forget the pretentious frosty feel of some upmarket bars, The Bureau is down to earth, honest and all about the cocktails. This bar is for anyone and everyone; you’ll have a hard time trying to pin down and label a stereotype amongst their customers.
During the night the bartender sat down with us to check that we were enjoying our drinks and to see if his creations had worked. Yes, it was a Wednesday night and admittedly less busy than it is of a weekend here, but it’s little touches like this that make The Bureau stand above the rest. With a chilled atmosphere, attentive staff and comfy booths, you’ll find that once you’ve sat down at Bureau you won’t want to leave...especially after you’ve tasted their cocktails!
Summary
The Bureau only opened at the end of last year, but it’s already making its stamp on Birmingham’s cocktail scene. With big things planned for 2014, this is one to watch. I urge you to visit right this second and order anything off the menu...you won’t be disappointed!
