What they say:
Fried chicken: the saviour on the end of the night out, soaking up the last bit of booze with all that greasy, artery-clogging goodness, right? Well, not anymore folks. Take everything that you know about fried chicken and throw it away with last night’s takeaway, because Bonehead is here to deliver gourmet fried chicken, alongside craft beer and cheeky cocktails. The venue itself is split between the 32-cover restaurant upstairs and an industrial style bar downstairs (which will still sell food). And the proof in this ‘gourmet chicken’ pudding? The menu is curated with the help of foodie Lap-fai Lee, who, among other things, is famous in Brum for teaming up with The Meat Shack last year to deliver the one-off-but-tasty ‘Dippin’ Chicken Shop’.
What we say:
The chicken definitely doesn’t look like the kind of thing you’d find on any old high street. It’ll arrive covered in their own special fried chicken recipe or in the ‘hot’ alternative, for those with a more iron tongue, and you can get dishes such as buttermilk fried chicken, wings, and burgers like the Hothead. That’s made from Nashville hot chicken thigh, lettuce, sweet pickle and comeback sauce. The focus isn’t just on the poultry, though, as they have a carefully crafted craft beer list, boasting everyone from big names like Beavertown to local guest brewers, alongside a healthy selection of cocktails and spirits.
