The Mailbox may host an amazing array of fantastic restaurant and bars to choose from, but I think I may have found a gem in Malmaison after my most recent visit. A venue that has peaked across the UK for their fine atmospheres and fare, it's right about time that we tucked in.
The Venue
The venue was stylish and sophisticated, with sleek decor and a chic red and black theme running throughout the restaurant and bar area, clearly reflecting the luxe atmosphere that this hotel and dining destination want to boast. The luxury doesn't stop there as you enter the dining room with its rich mahogany tables and intimate mood lighting; classicism at its peak in the city.
The Food and Drinks
With a deliciously tempting menu of cocktails, you'll be spoilt for choice on which one to order, just like I was. Choose a classic and it'll be exceptionally made, or try one of their own creations and find yourself with an exciting new favourite! But make sure you have at least one pina colada - it's amazing, and serves the rum collection at Malmaison well.
Their current Summer Classics menu gave us the option to enjoy fresh, seasonal and sophisticated dishes, like the heavenly Char-Grilled Double Chicken Breast with Thai Salad and Coriander & Chilli Dressing, at purse friendly prices. Sway from the set menu to indulge in their incredible Sticky Toffee Pudding with Pecan Caramel Sauce though...it's divine and so worth it!
The Atmosphere
I was anxious that we might feel out of place in such a luxurious setting, but my worries were quickly vanquished by the friendly welcome and chilled atmosphere that ensure the venue isn't pretentious at all. The service was fantastic too - from the warm greeting by the maitre'd to our attentive and friendly waiter, and even other members of staff who we briefly crossed paths with but always ensured that we were enjoying our experience.
Summary
Malmaison really went above and beyond to ensure that we had a fantastic evening. With exceptional food and cocktails, a chilled but sophisticated atmosphere and excellent service, I couldn't recommend Malmaison enough for your next dining out experience in Birmingham.
