If iTunes drives you loco and Spotify makes you scream, International Cassette Store Day could be right up your street. With events going on all over the UK and indeed the world, Birmingham is not one to be left out! Birmingham music magazine Brum Notes and Swordfish Records have teamed up to bring you an in-store celebration of a simpler time, when cassette tapes ruled all.
This September 7th at Swordfish Records HQ, Dalston Street, some of Birmingham’s finest musical talent will be performing intimate sets and as you may have guessed, cassettes will be back on the shelves. With sets from indie, folk band Midnight Bonfires, folk sisters Canon Street, Tom Peel and more, you can let their melodic tones treat your ears whilst you browse the store.
Cassette Store Day is all about giving this forgotten medium a bit of love so not only will albums be re-released, but albums that never made it to tape will be available for the first time. LPs from the likes of The Flaming Lips, Deerhunter and At The Drive In have been put on tape especially for this cassette collecting event. A tape lovers dream, you will be like a retro kid in a music store forever more with your new fangled collection of modern triumphs on compact!
