Things are getting lit in Birmingham City Centre, as over 88,000 fairy lights are twinkling from the Bullring and Grand Central this winter. Who’s behind it all? Bompas & Parr, who have masterminded an entire pop-up experience, and named it Once Upon A Time in Birmingham.
To ensure your Christmas is merry and bright, they’ve wrapped over 9 kilometres of lights (that’s enough to reach the top of Everest) around the area, with a host of mirrors to really dazzle guests.
In turn, they’ve created an equally impressive menu of food and drink for the ultimate glow-up. The tea parlour will be serving signature cocktails such as the Hot Bourbon Christmas Tree with bourbon, salted dark hot chocolate, and Christmas tea meringue, or the Winter Spiced Champagne Cocktail with cognac, Benedictine, winter spices and Chandon Brut, alongside the usual staples of soft drinks, wine and beer. There's even a free glass of the Festive Punch thrown in for ticket-holders.
If all that gaping in awe leaves you feeling peckish, check out the decadent desserts they’ve got on the afternoon tea menu. This includes mince meringue pies, a yule log sundae and the light-refracting prismatic Xmas pudding jelly, all with 90 minutes of bottomless tea… can I get a watt, watt?
The Bompas & Parr pop-up is open until 23rd December from 2pm-midnight every day, and can be found at Middle Mall, Birmingham B5 4BE. Entry is free but tickets guarantee queue-jumping and the Festive Punch. Tickets can be found here, and are £5 daytime, £6 evening and £12.50 for Festive High Tea.
