If you’ve ever seen Singapore on TV or in films, you’ll recognise the country has a unique way of dining that's any food-lover's dream... the hawker centre. Having started out as street food from roadside stalls or pushcars, these places have grown to the point where a wide choice of kitchens and flavours all come together under one roof. Now, Brighton’s getting its very own slice of the action with a brand new pop-up restaurant.
Located within The Chilli Pickle, Hawkerman is a celebration of Asian feasting with influences from across the continent. The menu features next-level snacks like kale tempura with yuzu salt and ponzu sauce, shrimp krupuk with plum sauce and imperial veg rolls with satay. And when it comes to larger plates? Think Singaporean-style fish head curry, Cantonese BBQ sunshine chicken, Stan Wu’s black pepper lamb ribs and Korean foo ramyun with a range of enticing sides like Xi'an spiked cucumbers and house sambal oelek. With its menu of eclectic eats and large mural in the dining room, this place is an unmissable homage to the country's traditional way of eating.
Hawkerman is located within The Chilli Pickle, 17 Jubilee St, Brighton BN1 1GE. It is open 12.30-3pm, Monday-Friday. Looking for more Asian restaurants in Brighton? Check out our guide here.
