A new opening from a notorious London party bar? Yes, please. Taking over the former Jamie's Italian on Black Lion Street, The Rum Kitchen has launched its first Brighton location, and it's brought potent drinks and mouthwatering bites along for the ride.
With three bustling sites already under their belts, the venue group have taken their Island concept from the streets of Brixton, Soho and Shoreditch to the sunny shores of the South Coast. Diners can expect a twist on traditional Caribbean flavours in every dish, from the saltfish fritters and a chayote and chickpea curry to mac and cheese pie served with jerk gravy, while drinks will transport sippers to more tropical climes with a host of rum-laced cocktails - we're talking mai tais, mojitos and daiquiris.
But there's still more to this fun Brighton restaurant than just the refreshments. Music plays a key role in keeping the Rum Kitchen atmosphere alive, with a regular rotation of DJs bringing the essence of carnival every weekend, and for when the vibes are just too hot? Revellers can cool off with icy mixes on the venue's roof terrace.
