Our Guide to Great Escape 2015

A must-try for guys, gals and gulls alike, The Great Escape Festival returns to Brighton's shores this May, with a 10th birthday in tow. Heralded for their niche venues, global acts (Over 400 at that) and undiscovered talent, Great Escape has more musical welly than a boot on high-tide, but who to reel in and catch? From the ploughing of punk to scaling acoustic acts, here are our favourites to see at this year's event:

From Indian Lakes

Prince Albert: 14th May 2015 (8:15pm - 8:45pm)

Fronted by Joey Vannucchi in a haze of gazing chords and looming lyrics, From Indian Lakes are a band with ambient tact. Like a blundering through the boscage, From Indian Lakes and their 2014 album 'Absent Sounds' kept alternative publications on their toes thanks to its admirable haze and indie shuffle. Goad them with a campfire, they'll likely bring the marshmallows and a guitar.

PROM

The Hope and Ruin: 16th May 2015 (8:00pm - 8:30pm)

A fevered four-piece consisting of drummer, reptillian, career loser and sometimes rabbit (hold your hounding, they said it, not me), PROM are a tumultuous taste of ascending screams, neat whips and cleverly overcast moments. Severing guitar strings from 'Cry Baby Cry' to 'Celebrate' on a roaring 'punk/alt/goth axis', it's all kiss, cuddle and kill. Just ask them nicely when trying any of the three.

Aldous Harding

St Georges Church: 14th May 2015 (8:15pm - 8:45pm)

One music review once said of Aldous Harding that 'These songs are beautiful but I don’t know why. At these times, it’s often best to stop writing and just listen'; If this writer were running in an election, he'd likely get my vote. Aldous Harding is an impending folk artist that feels better left unsaid. Plucking on heartstrings like she does diddlies on her guitar, Great Escape's dose of Harding is sure to be all but beautifully brisk.

Dornik

The Arch: 15th May 2015 (8:45pm - 9:15pm)

If London's Dornik were to pick you up on a date, i'm sure he'd come 'a' knocking in a bubblegum coloured Cadillac with kittens and whisky in tow. A smooth talker in tone of voice and slight of electronica, Dornik may be a fleeting departure from Great Escape's indie guise, but he's a sound for those not scared of shifting hips, retro guitar flicks and fun, scaling soul. Googles 'bubblegum coloured Cadillac'.

Meat Wave

The Arch: 15th May 2015 (7:15pm - 7:45pm)

Valiant bashing comes calling from California, as the frantic and furious notes of Meat Wave make for a wanted kick in the Great Escape gonads. A corker of a trio that feel like a beloved blend of proud punk the States over, Meat Wave may define themselves as 'punk without the fashion', but we define them as bloody good bunch o' boys, making some lovingly turbulent tracks. Potato, potato.
