Cabaret Comes to Brighton – The Amazing Basil Valentine' Alchemical Circus !

Wednesday

21st November The Nightingale Room, Grand Central, Surrey

street, Brighton

Fresh from his exploits at Glastonbury Festival, Sunrise Celebration and
the West End's legendary Raymond Revue Bar, that purveyor of
outstanding talent that is Mr. Basil Valentine ( for it is he !) has
assembled a breathtaking evening of titillation, magic, melody and
hilarity. A spectacular treat for the senses. For one night only.

The lucky guests will be greeted by exotic hostesses purveying popcorn
as they guide patrons to their seats in one of Brighton's hidden
gems, The Nightingale Room at Grand Central.

What is Basil Valentine's Alchemical Circus ?
Basil Valentine's Alchemical Circus is one of those special evenings you will remember for all the right reasons. A feast of live entertainment to lift up
the spirits, to delight and amaze the senses, and to leave the
audience in breathless hysteria with a warm glow in their hearts. A
unique experience you will treasure.

How and Why is it
Alchemical ?

Alchemy is many things, but essentially it
involves combining elements to generate something entirely new and is
more than the sum of its parts. That's magic and that's what the show
is all about.

So what is it you plan to make with your
Alchemy Mr.Valentine ?

Pure, unalloyed joy ! The gold of the
soul, with a side order of fun. Fun and joy are such simple pleasures
yet some folk find them hard to come by in these troubled times.

And what elements do you intend to combine to manifest this
fun and joy, Sir ?

Wonder. Spectacle. Melody. Laughter.
Amazement. ....and Popcorn...to name but a few !

Sounds
intriguing. Where and when do we go ?

To the utterly charming
Nightingale Room, which is above Grand Central, right outside
Brighton Station on Wednesday November 21st. Show starts at 8pm.

A proper old fashioned night out is what promoter Basil Valentine promises. The arrival in Brighton on Wednesday 21st of November of the Alchemical Circus marks the return of traditional seaside variety Cabaret to Brighton. Magic, Burlesque, Comedy, Singers and of course, a resident House Band at The Nightingale Room above Grand Central. The watchword of the show is fun.

Host for the evening is Basil Valentine – part Crooner, part Comedian, perhaps he's best describing himself. “I'm the butter in the sandwich, the lubricant. The show is a club sandwich. The sort you get from room service in five star hotels” he said. “You want a bit of butter every bite but you wouldn't want a whole mouthful.” Okay, so what is the filling? “The artists are the filling, and the bread is our house band, The Altomatics” I see. And what are the acts themselves ?

Refusing to let go of the club sandwich metaphor, he went on. “I suppose The Great Baldini is the turkey. Baldini is a magical legend, a relic of the music halls, a performer of the old school. Here, he tells his life-story through a series of stage illusions. Its a joyously silly romp through magic.”
“Then we've got a pair of local, up and coming comedians destined for big things. Gracie Bassie is the kinder egg queen, orchestrating an adventure through the most remarkable and mundane aspects of existence whilst flying high on caffeine, herbs and pure glee.” Fellow Brighton comedian Ant McEwen sounds positively conventional by comparison. “He's a former 'Man Who Looks Like Goats' who mixes prop-based silliness with audience interaction to create anarchic comedy chaos.”

But wait. There's more. Basil went on “One of the best aspects of this century has been the revival of Circus skills and arts, and of course, Burlesque. We're lucky enough to have a couple of fantastic girls in Miss Lily Fortune and Miss Elsie May. Lily's is an act to get you genuinely hot under the collar. Let's just say she'll get sparks flying, if you get my angle. ..” What could he possibly mean ? I guess we'll just have to go along to find out. “Miss Elsie May is a Burlesque performer who evokes the glamour of the 1930s. All feathers, finery and finesse !”

“No cabaret show would be complete without a songstress, and Annika Brown brings a spirit of punkish truculence to cabaret. She moves seamlessly between being funny, political, dramatic and seductive. Also joining us is Liverpool legend Captain Goblin, a renegade songwriter fighting his way out of the artistic trenches. I expect him to be highly entertaining.”

“First and foremost, we have our house band, The Altomatics. I can honestly say I'm absolutely thrilled to have a resident outfit and we couldn't really do the show as we want without them. It makes all the difference to have the drum rolls for the Magician's big reveals and the crash of cymbals for the punchlines – assuming there are some. That's cabaret ! The Altomatics will be playing us in and out of both halves of the show and doing a set at the end.”

“We're opening the doors at 7;15 and until 8pm the warm up is open mic so jokesmiths, come along and try out your material ! I want the show to have something of a 'Good Old Days' feel to it so hopefully people will dress up and have a rollicking good night out. There's the live band and even a DJ at the end to dance to. Four hours of live entertainment for less than the price of a cinema ticket !”

What could possibly go wrong ?!

Basil Valentine's Alchemical Circus is at The Nightingale Room, above Grand Central, Surrey Street, Brighton on Wednesday 21st November. Doors @7:15pm. T
