Brighton's award-winning seafront restaurant Al Fresco has closed, donating all its furnishings and excess food to charity. Now, a new venture from the minds behind The Walrus and The Lion and Lobster will open in its location, revamping the site and the menu.
Brighton Beach Club will feature contemporary British cuisine, with a primary focus on vegetarian and vegan dishes. Though little has been disclosed about the restaurant itself, it appears they are opting for a more rustic aesthetic, with reclaimed furnishings and crockery, in which dishes such as tandoori roasted cauliflower with chermoula vegetables, cous cous, coconut yoghurt with sumac pickled onions will be served.
The restaurant is due to open for a wedding on the 30th November, then for Christmas bookings from the 8th December, before becoming available to the public from the 10th December. The festive menu includes a significant amount of vegan and veggie dishes including chestnut, butterbean, chickpea and cumin strudel, as well as roasted munchkin pumpkin. Fear not meat eaters, there's also a traditional roast turkey and slow braised featherblade of beef available to enjoy before a hearty helping of dessert which includes Christmas pudding and vegan panna cotta.
