Best Steak Restaurants In Cardiff

Whether it's drizzled in peppercorn sauce, served with triple-cooked chips or done medium-rare, there's no doubt that the beloved steak is a staple. The name comes from the Old Norse word steik, meaning roast, and in medieval times, a steak referred to any large cut of meat that could be roasted over an open flame, not just beef.

In our guide, we're talking all things Aberdeen Agnus and sirloin; from spots in the city centre to the bay, we're here to help you discover the best steak restaurants in Cardiff.

The Botanist, Cardiff Central

Happy hour

The Botanist has an array of delicious, juicy cuts on its menu. It blends botanical-inspired décor with a relaxed yet refined atmosphere and features lush greenery, floral accents, and vintage furnishings.

The large central bar, surrounded by hanging plants and ornate light fixtures, sets the tone for a cosy evening. At either its Church Street or Cardiff Bay location, you can devour the likes of a 7oz bavette steak for £18.95, served with rocket, cherry tomatoes and parmesan in a balsamic dressing, or an 8oz sirloin steak alongside beer-battered onion rings.

Gaucho Cardiff

Gaucho is an Argentine steakhouse offering a premium dining experience centred around high-quality, expertly cooked steaks made using beef from purebred Aberdeen Angus cattle. Located in the city's St David's shopping complex, it features a stylish and contemporary setting (think bronzed interiors and leather seating) and focuses on traditional Argentine grilling techniques, using charcoal to enhance the flavours of their meats.

The Gaucho Cardiff menu includes a variety of dishes, from empanadas to seafood, as well as steaks. Delight in a chorizo sirloin, complete with a strip of juicy crackling, or an ancho ribeye. If you're looking to share, the chateaubriand is worth ordering from £78.50, and the Gaucho sampler allows you to try four different types for £130.

Brewhouse & Kitchen Cardiff (Pontcanna)

Pre-Order your 9 Pint B&K Triton £50! and 3 other offers

This cosy and vibrant pub offers a unique combination of craft beer, hearty food, and a relaxed atmosphere in a bright and airy setting. Brewhouse & Kitchen in Pontcanna, Cardiff, brews its beers on-site, providing a rotating selection of house-made ales alongside a curated list of local and international brews.

You'll find a cracking steak on the menu here: chow down on a 35-day-aged, grass-fed ribeye drizzled in garlic butter and served with triple-cooked chips for £21.50, and add chimichurri or peppercorn sauce for an extra £2.

Asador 44

Nestled in the heart of Cardiff's city centre, Asador 44 is a contemporary venue that brings the bold, smoky flavours of Spanish cuisine to the Welsh capital. Inspired by the rich culinary traditions of the Basque Country, this modern restaurant focuses on the art of grilling over open flames, with an emphasis on high-quality, locally sourced produce and expertly aged meats.

The restaurant's name refers to the Spanish tradition of grilling meats in a wood-fired oven, a technique at the heart of their menu, and the interior blends rustic charm with urban sophistication, featuring warm wooden tones, an inviting atmosphere, and an open kitchen that lets diners watch chefs work their magic. The food menu is just as impressive: our favourite has got to be the 500g Spanish ex-dairy sirloin, perfect for two, served medium rare (£54).

Pasture Cardiff

The best steak restaurant in Cardiff city centre has got to be Pasture. The perfect spot for a weekend get-together, this stylish restaurant is the second venture from Sam Elliott, a former colleague of Jamie Oliver, who earned rave reviews for his first opening in Bristol.

With a strong emphasis on ethical and sustainable sourcing, the menu features the freshest, most local ingredients - think cattle raised in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains and organic vegetables grown in Abergavenny. Menu highlights include a teriyaki fillet served pink, a delicious porterhouse cooked on the bone and beef fat chips.

Steak of the Art

A true haven for steak lovers, Steak of the Art brings a modern twist to Cardiff's dining scene with a unique blend of quality cuts, vibrant flavours, and creative culinary flair. Located in the heart of the city, it's dedicated to the art of perfectly prepared steaks, sourced from the finest Welsh farms. The venue itself is an eclectic fusion of art and design, featuring bold murals, exposed brick walls, and stylish lighting that creates a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere.

Each dish is a masterpiece, with a menu that goes beyond the usual steakhouse fare, offering an array of options that cater to all tastes, from succulent dry-aged steaks to mouthwatering sides and indulgent desserts. You can customise your own by choosing a cut from rump to ribeye and a sauce like chimichurri or red wine jus to complement.
