Taking up a corner plot in Rotunda, this unique new Dublin bar is specialising in one of Ireland's most notorious spirits. Turning poitín into picture-perfect cocktails, 1661 is the brainchild of Bán Poitín founder Dave Mulligan and it's looking to put the formerly banned drink back on the map.
Following a successful pop-up bar back in 2017, Mulligan has taken a permanent spot on Green Street to serve up his latest selection of sublime cocktails. From a poitín-based take on the Irish Coffee to a mix that includes burnt yeast, meadow sweet and marmalade bitters, there's no lack of imagination going into these drinks. On top of the poitín offering, they also have range of whisky highballs, tasting flights and Irish-inspired sips.
1661 isn't lacking on soakage either and guests can chow down on delicious platters of cured meats, cheeses and even some very tasty salt beef sliders, served on Irish potato bread.
