Where to find the best bakeries in Edinburgh
La Barantine
- Patisserie
- 89 W Bow, Edinburgh EH1 2JP, UK
Ah, La Barantine. We’re super grateful that several branches
of this cute French boulangerie are dotted all around the city. The
baguettes are second to none (moist crumb, crunchy exterior) and
the croissants are hands down the best in Edinburgh. Unpretentious,
with a meticulous eye for detail, La Barantine smacks of French
authenticity: it is owned by French people after all! If you’re
looking for something more than bread or pastry, why not indulge in
one of the delicate pâtisserie, like the Tarte aux Abricots, Gâteau
Saint Honoré and Macarons. Alternatively, for lunch, order a
homemade quiche or a deliciously filled baguette, complete with
comté cheese and jambon.

Bits Bake Shop
- Bakery
- 38 Dalkeith Rd, Edinburgh EH16 5BS, UK
Opened in the summer of 2018, Bits offers takeaway baking and
hot drinks with a focus on homely Scandinavian and British-style
baking, with a real concentration on seasonality and locality.
Located in walking distance of Arthur’s Seat makes this bakery the
perfect spot to fill-up on some goodies before embarking on a long
walk. Most people go for the heavenly home-baked brownies: Rye and
Sea Salt, Marmalade or Peanut Butter, whatever takes your fancy!
Coffee comes from the local roastery, Williams & Johnson and is
always expertly prepared. A real hidden gem in the Edinburgh
Southside.

Söderberg
- Bakery
- 45 Broughton St, Edinburgh EH1 3JU, UK
Söderberg has six cool and Scandi-inspired outposts all across
Edinburgh, but the bakery house in Edinburgh, located on trendy
Broughton Street, is particularly special. You’ll find sweet buns,
Kladdkaka (mud cake) and sourdough breads aplenty here. Locals
rave about the Swedish cinnamon or cardamom buns, and washed down
with a perfectly brewed coffee, we can see why! Though chic and
minimalist, the bakery is nonetheless welcoming, and the staff are
super friendly. If you have time, perch at the window and watch the
world go by with a fresh bake.

Twelve Triangles
- Cafe
- 90 Brunswick St, Edinburgh EH7 5HU, UK
Freshly baked loaves and pastries line the walls in Twelve
Triangles. The space is quite small, so it’s perhaps best suited
for those after a bite to eat on the go, but don’t let that put you
off though. The baking is truly top-notch, and many of the bakes
are sold elsewhere in different cafés across the city. Innovative
flavours like charcoal, spelt and sunflower, and rosemary loaves
always make an appearance – but classics like croissants and jam
doughnuts are available too. The service is slick and the staff are
chatty. Prices aren’t cheap, but for the quality of the bake you
won’t mind spending a bit extra.

The Pastry Section
- Cafe
- 86 Raeburn Pl, Stockbridge, Edinburgh EH4 1HH, UK
Founded in 2017, The Pastry Section is a contemporary
bakehouse located slap-bang in the middle of Edinburgh’s beautiful
Stockbridge. Everything here is baked from scratch in-store, and
the menu rotates depending on what’s in season. Favourites include
brownies, cinnamon buns, cookies and lemon meringue tarts. Relaxed
and sophisticated, The Pastry Section is the perfect location to
indulge in between exploring Edinburgh’s most quaint
village.

Mimi's Bakehouse
- Scottish, Bakery, Cafe
- 63 Shore, Edinburgh, United Kingdom, EH6 6RA
