Just when you thought St James Quarter couldn't get any better, Duck & Waffle go and hit us with an absolutely worldie. Joining the likes of The Alchemist and SUSHISAMBA in the retail district's growing range of venues, this will be the much-loved restaurant's first UK venture outside London - and it's popping up just a short walk from Edinburgh Castle.

Opening its doors on the fourth floor in February, the eatery will boast a stylish terrace when you want to nab a table overlooking the action in St James Quarter. As for interiors? Just like its London cousin, those are set to be stunning. Expect floor-to-ceiling windows, egg-shaped chairs, colourful foliage and a shining copper-chrome central bar.

Continuing the promise set out by its name, Duck & Waffle brings the perfect marriage of sweet and savoury to our city. From the deep-fried haggis bar - a rich layering of ox cheek, haggis and duck fat caramel, with Bovril on the side - to foie gras creme brulee; the full-on feasts and small plates here are never quite what you expect. The icing on the cake? Kooky cocktails, especially an aptly-named Waffle On The Rocks that features waffle-flavoured Portobello vodka, St Germain elderflower liquor, Drambuie and lime cordial.
