Chinaskis

A secret speakeasy in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, Chinaskis is a rare gem among nearby Sauchiehall Street's abundant boozers. Named after writer Charles Bukowski's alter-ego and recurring character, and immortalised by both Matt Dillon in Factotum and Micky Rourke in Barfly, Chinaskis themes itself on the allure of the debauched protagonist, with a special place in its heart for bourbon and cigars. 

The decor is simple with understated elements of decadence in green leather and dark woods. A pretty garden out back seems a world away from the city outside, and at night a candlelit, fanciful atmosphere takes hold of the bar, making this a great spot for romantic rendezvous and hushed conversations. Food comes with an American slant, burgers, pasta, steaks and pizza and steaks and as well as the ubiquitous bourbon, a wide range of spirits and cocktails are available with White Russians, particularly popular. The crowd is is discerning, yet unpretentious, friendly, in the know, and eager not to let their little slice of heaven, get trampled on by passing lager louts. So don't look for the sign; you won't find one.
