Description
Saramago Café Bar is hidden inside Glasgow's Centre for Contemporary Arts on Sauchiehall Street. You've probably walked past it countless times and not realised that it was home to a wonderful little bar and café. This spacious venue attracts families during the day and young, bohemian types throughout the evening.
The menu is mostly Mediterranean-inspired vegetarian meals while the bread is hand baked every day using organic flour - little details like this really makes the Saramago stand out from other City Centre café bars. It's not all about veggie eats, though. The Saramago boasts a formidable drinks menu and as far as city centre prices go, they're pretty reasonable. Once you've finished your food, head upstairs to the bar area. The outdoor seating is overlooked by Glasgow's art school and the vibe is much the same as the café itself - pretty chilled out and laid back. Livening up at the weekends DJ sets in the terrace bar at weekends play everything from jazz to garage to pyschedelic rock. A great hidden gem in Glasgow's City Centre, and welcome respite from Sauchiehall Street's loud and boisterous bars and clubs.
