Your last trip to the movies is going to be hugely different to your next. The last outing likely took place against a constant rustling of cinema snacks. You probably had to crane your neck to catch the action after all the best seats were taken. You almost definitely had to break into a £20 for the privilege.
Those days are all behind you though, at least for a glorious week at the end of July. You can put your wallet away as The Merchant City Movie Club rolls into town, welcoming film lovers of all ages for a completely free outdoor cinema event.
Kicking off on Monday 27th July with a day of the finest Scottish flicks, this is the city’s largest event of its kind, and it’ll be held on the Brunswick Street Live Stage as part of the Merchant City Festival. The line-up hasn’t been finalised, but you can expect an impressive rota of cult classics, retro comedies and family-friendly favourites to take their turn on the enormous LED screen throughout the week.
The 600-capacity space will combine outdoor and covered seating – so there’s shelter if the heaven’s open – and you’ll be able to enjoy street food from the nearby markets and a mixture of hot and cold beverages. The line-up is eclectic and with child-friendly films kicking off from 10am, it makes sense to bring all the family and enjoy a fun day out without spending a penny.
The Merchant City Movie Club takes place on the Brunswick Street Live Stage as part of the Merchant City Festival. A variety of free screenings will be shown from July 27th to August 2nd.
