It's one of the biggest Hogmanany hootenannys in Glasgow, and the countdown begins now. The annual Ashton Lane Street Party launches today and this year's festivities are set to be bigger and better than ever. Party the night away on the cobbles with drinks, live music, food and fireworks.
With ten Ashton Lane bars getting in on the action, this is going to be ma-hoo-sive. Each venue will kick off its own unique bash, so whether you fancy some cocktails in Vodka Wodka, from VIP action in the Grosvenor Cinema, stout and banter in Jinty's, dinner in the Ubiquitous Chip or Belgian beer and waffles in Brel, to see in the new year, this is the Hogmanay party for you.
The Lane itself will have plenty of action, with live music from Them Beatles, Snafu and George Donaldson as well as a piper ringing in the bells, and street performers to add to the carnival street party vibes. Then at the stroke of midnight, the pretty fairy-lit street will be topped off with spectacular fireworks, seeing in Glasgow's big year in style. All rather magical eh? Our kind of shin-dig.
This year's Ashton Lane Hogmanay Street Party (sponsored by the good folks in Crabbies Ginger Beer and Budweiser Budvar by the by) is in aid of the STV Appeal - a fund which provides help to children and young people affected by poverty in Glasgow. So far this year the appeal has raised £2.5 million, and one pound from every Hogmanay Street Party ticket will go towards the remarkable cause.
So not only will you get to party-hearty with 3000 other wild Weegies, but you'll be making the first few hours of 2014 count and helping an incredible cause to boot. Sounds like a rather nifty New Year's bash to us. Tickets for the Ashton Lane Party go on sale today, cost £25 and are available in participating bars all along the street. These things sell like Hogmanay hot cakes, so make sure you nab yours a-sap.
