Answering the hangover prayers of every Glas-vegan, the West End's Serenity Now cafe have added a surprising addition to their winter menu - an Irn-Bru jackfruit sandwich. The plant-based eatery on Great Western Road will be serving up the jumped-up jackfruit piece to its customers, slathered in mushroom, barbecue sauce, cheese and pickle, and then squished between two slices of sourdough.
After a recent study suggested that Glasgow has more vegans than any other city, it seems only fitting that Scotland's naturally vegan national soda should be getting a look in. Serenity Now, which has taken up a space in the West End for around a year, has managed to scoop the prize for the first spot in the country, and indeed the world, to put everyone's favourite softie into a sarnie.
The Irn-Bru-roasted jackfruit sandwich is available for £6.50 from Serenity Now, 380 Great Western Road, Glasgow, G4 9HT.
