First there was the Armadillo, next there was the Squinty Bridge, and now, there's the Spaceship. Glasgow's skyline has a new landmark, as the lights of the Hydro got turned on this week. The incredible 12,000 seater venue, spouted out shades of blue, green and red, adding even more colour to Glasgow's quays come night time. The £125 million building which was modelled on Greek and Roman amphitheatres stands at 147 foot. The Hydro which is a purpose-built concert venue with incredible acoustics and uninterrupted stage views, will play host to 140 events each year, starting with Rod Stewart for four nights next week. Over the next few months the arena will play host to Fleetwood Mac, Bruno Mars, Arctic Monkeys and the MOBO Awards among a whole lot else, as well as Netball and Gymnastic events in next Commonwealth Games.
If you're headed to any of the cracking gigs taking place in the Hydro over the next few months, don't forget to stop in somewhere for some pre-concert eats, or post-gig scoops. The Finnieston area has some cracking bars and restaurants, with Distill, Lebowski's, The Finnieston, Bilberry, Butchershop Bar & Grill, Chinaski's and The Black Sparrow, all just a short stroll away from the Hydro action.
