An apericena bar in Brixton serving regional specialities
from the Maremma - the wild coastal region in southern Tuscany
known for its wild boar, seafood and vineyards.
Apericena is a new take on aperitivo in Italy. Formed by adding
the word cena, meaning dinner, onto aperitivo, dishes are more
substantial than aperitivo, but more casual than dinner and
are enjoyed with a cocktail or glass of Tuscan wine from a
hand-picked, independent producer in the Maremma.
The bar is part of the Maremma group, with Maremma restaurant just around the corner, and
is perfect for a pre-dinner aperitivo, post-dinner digestivo or the
whole apericena shebang for anyone looking for a more casual
evening out. Guests can enjoy small plates such as crostoni (large
crostini), pizzette, boards of Maremman formaggi and salumi and
other Tuscan specialities with a cocktail in hand.
Located on Tulse Hill, just a short walk from the hubub of
central Brixton, the bar's interior is reminiscent of a traditional
Italian bar but with a Brixton twist. The terracotta and sage walls
and blue bar front draw on the rich, terracotta soil, central to
winemaking in the area since the Etruscans, as well as the azure
blue Tyrrhenian sea and sage green olive groves that permeate the
landscape. The local gig posters are Dickie the owner's personal
collection, having lived in the area for 50 years.
