London Jazz Festival: Trigon – Scintillating Ethno Jazz from Moldova & Romania
- No reviews.
- The Forge
Fusing Romanian and Moldovan folk music and sophisticated, grooving jazz, Trigon make sparky music that sounds like what might have come about had gypsy maestros Taraf de Haidouks ever jammed with fusion legends Weather Report.
The band was created in 1992 and is led on viola by Anatol Stefanet, bringing an earthy vibe that is partnered with the breathy kaval flute dexterously played by multi-instrumentalist Vali Boghean, also on trumpet and sax. Keys, xylophone, drums and vocal arrangements work together to create kaleidoscopic acoustic textures. Witty and inventive, ironic and easy-going, Trigon are also serious and scrupulous about their music.
"Four virtuosos, four magnificent musicians, create together aesthetically modern and very original music. The proficiency and easiness of their performance, the humour of their dramatic music can be compared to Chick Corea playing a concert of Mozart, with vocal participation and conducted by Bobby McFerrin" - Milen Panaiotov
Their only UK show is supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London and promoted by Kazum.
Anatol Stefanet - viola
Dorel Burlacu - keyboard, piano, harmonica
Gari Tverdohleb - xylophone, drums, percussion
