Clubhouse, situated at the Four O Nine restaurant, is a new speakeasy style cocktail bar in Clapham. The bar is only open on Friday and Saturday nights (11pm - 3am) but entry is not guaranteed for everyone. The only way to gain access to Clubhouse is by calling them and making a booking. While this may sound straightforward enough, access to the this phone number is a privilege and will only be given to a chosen few... good luck.
What we say:
There are a lot of bars opening in London that label themselves a 'speakeasy' but very few actually qualify. Just because the bar is underground does not make it a speakeasy. They were initially set up as a means of circumventing prohibition laws and therefore need to be extremely discrete (you can't just walk in under a big sign that says 'SPEAKEASY DOWNSTAIRS'). Clubhouse ticks the boxes with it's vetting system. Access can only be gained with a booking, but the phone number required to make said booking can only be obtained by asking the staff personally. This is very cool, very quirky... and does indeed speak of a Speakeasy. Expect great cocktails, a cool crowd and the late opening hours suggest a jolly time.
