Being a tourist in your own city is fun. But around the start of London’s festive season? Frankly, it's incomparable. However, instead of slogging it on the tube back home after a day of Insta-posting / sightseeing, how about resting your head at a slinky hotel in between Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden? Let us introduce: Page8 London as well as its rooftop bar and restaurant, Kitty Hawk.
DesignMyNight Review Of Page8 London And Kitty Hawk
Firstly, the exciting, chaotic vibe of Theatreland is left at the door and it’s quite remarkable how peaceful everything is as soon as you walk inside Page8's hotel in London. We were welcomed by a gorgeous coffee smell coming from the charming in-house cafe, and then after a seamless check-in, it was straight up the lift to our Superior Double Street View Room (approx £350 per night).
We could see why it was our reception team’s favourite; entering through a corridor, past four big windows, the L-shaped space was airy and elegant yet cosy. There was intricate detailing across the ceiling and even a navy blue chez lounge to up the VIP factor, plus we adored the old school black telephone on our desk. The room was kitted out with all you could want and much more, from APPELLES toiletries and an air purifier to a Marshall speaker with a carefully chosen playlist. As I crashed onto the super soft bed and looked outside, London’s majestic rooftops covered the horizon, almost glimmering in the sunset.
Feeling hungry? Ditch the tourist traps and make a beeline for the brand new Kitty Hawk restaurant. Having opened in September 2024, this beautiful hotspot is conveniently located on the top floor of Page8 and boasts striking views of the sparkling London skyline. As for the interiors, think dreamy tones of burnt orange and sage green, paired with rattan furniture, velvet cushions and gold detailing. Clusters of pretty lights acted like a passage down the middle of the space, providing a lovely romantic glow for our evening. You’ll also notice cute knick-knacks like shells throughout but our advice is: don’t skip on the sleek wooden bar area too, as it’d be very easy to spend hours working through the extensive cocktail offering there.
Speaking of cocktails… we started with two alcohol-free sips. You can probably imagine what the Picant0 (£9) was akin to; a delicious, refreshing glass blending Feragaia (a boozeless spirit), pineapple juice, agave and lime, plus the unmistakable kick of chilli. No prizes for guessing where my date’s Sin-gria (£9) takes inspiration from, and to be honest, this citrusy tipple tasted just as good as the original. Big props to Wednesday Domaine (a booze-free red wine) that was shaken up with orange juice, spiced berry syrup and lemonade.
Food-wise, diners can expect a fresh, seasonal menu championing British ingredients. I opted for the Isle of Wight tomatoes (£11), a delicately presented medley of green, red and yellow spheres alongside black olives. Slices of radish provided crunch, while the earthy beetroot and burrata-like stracciatella cheese were incredibly moreish. Oh, and if I could, I’d bathe in that herby pesto oil. A clean plate from me. As for my date? Indulgence was the name of the game so he chose the lobster and crab risotto cake (£16). The crisp breadcrumbed patty revealed a soft, rich inner layer which was a perfect partner for the silky lemony Hollandaise.
My dinner date's seafood quest continued with his main, a divine North Sea halibut (£28). Drenched in a sensational prawn bisque, the flaky fish was cooked well and when you add a smooth broccoli purée, tiny balls of courgette puree and fiery chorizo? Magic, in our opinion. It got even better when he mopped up the mouthwatering sauce with the intense and delicious triple-cooked truffled chips (£6), heady with salty parmesan too.
My roast heritage squash (£19) and beetroot resembled a mountain packed with droolworthy veg, and I was hell-bent on conquering it, even though I was slightly sceptical of the macadamia 'cheese'. I needn't have worried though, as this nicely textured paste brought the whole dish together, especially when paired with the hazelnut dressing. If I was being picky though, it would have been good to have an additional veggie / plant-based dish to choose from, as this was the only one on the menu.
We only had room to share dessert, so picked a strawberry cheesecake (£8). This well-executed masterpiece was probably the most attractive plate of the night. We’re talking a Barbie pink slice with a jelly top and sugary biscuit base, boasting piped white chocolate, cream and a tasty crumble on the side.
On the next day? Following one of the dreamiest forty winks I’ve had in a long time, we woke feeling rested. And after a quick shower in the glossy marble-covered bathroom, we dropped into the aforementioned cafe for breakfast. As part of the package, you get a hot drink, main dish and a pastry. A three-course brekkie? That’s a massive yes from us. Whether it’s a sign I’ve been with my other half for too long, I’m not sure, but we ordered exactly the same. Our chilli-dotted avocado on sourdough benefitted from delicious swirls of olive oil, slices of tomato and radish and just the right amount of seasoning. The lattes were absolutely spot on (they definitely know a thing or two about coffee) and the fluffy cinnamon buns were a perfect finale.
