To celebrate All Star Lanes’ Bottomless Craft Beer Brunch beginning on the 27th August, I went along to the venue in Brick Lane, for bacon, bowling and beer.
The Experience
Bottomless brunches are big, I mean if you live in London and haven’t been to one, you are clearly surviving rather than thriving. Throwing their hat into the ring is All Star Lanes, who are taking the traditional brunch and pimping it up with bottomless beer and bowling. Not just any old beer either, but a range of craft ales and lagers that have been chosen by beer and food writer Melissa Cole.
All Star Lanes’ fare is Americana and their brunch menu follows suit with plenty of streaky bacon and maple syrup. We tried all five dishes from the menu, starting with smashed avocado and poached eggs on sourdough - a classic but a goody. The salt beef hash was topped with two perfectly runny eggs and came with a veal jus that I now want to smother all my food in.
My favourite dish was the buttermilk fried chicken and treacle-cured bacon which came with freshly baked waffles, maple syrup and chilli butter - a big, indulgent pile of sweet fried goodness.
While you can choose mimosas or prosecco with your bottomless brunch, why not live life on the edge and try the beer and beertail - that’s right folks, a cocktail made from beer. Dubbed the Brooklyn Breakfast, the beertail came with bourbon, apple juice, lime and maple syrup and was surprisingly light and refreshing.
After boozing and brunching, we hit the alley for some bowling fun. A partially sighted 80 year old is most probably better at bowling than me but with a big group and two hours of unlimited beer, hitting the pins became a mere formality.
Summary
Alcohol and bowling is always a great combo, no doubting that, but throw in some brunch and bottomless beer and you’re onto a winner.
All Star Lanes' bottomless brunch starts on the 27th August, will be available 12-4pm costing £19 per person for a two-hour slot. The offer will be available at Holborn, Shoreditch, Bayswater and Stratford All Star Lanes.
