Floripa Shoreditch - London Cocktail Bar Review

An exotic haven found in the heart of Shoreditch, Floripa is a wonderfully vibrant establishment epitomising everything that is Tropicalia. A multi-faceted Brazilian institution, this is one of the area's most unique and charismatic venues, that serves as a hotbed for superb dining while adding a splash of colour to Shoreditch's renowned party scene.

The Venue

Located between Old Street and Shoreditch, this one offers much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the manically busy Great Eastern Street. Named in honour of the party island off the coast of Brazil, Floripa is simultaneously a respected restaurant and exuberant DJ bar, that manages to thrill your taste buds while making you get off your feet and bust some moves.

Elegant without the pretence, expect an eye-catching décor that boasts palm trees, chandeliers, mood lighting and a plethora of South American decorations to give it an authentic and compelling vibe. A modest yet inviting outside area, once you enter you’ll be welcomed by a large and impressive bar that serves as the centre piece of the venue.

Bedecked with a liberal dose of Brazilian flair, Floripa is a relaxed restaurant and lively DJ bar by the same token.

The Atmosphere

Floripa is a hub of activity, as a flurry of workers congregate for post-work drinks readying themselves for what the weekend has to offer, while less rowdy punters dine in the cool and vivacious surroundings. As the night goes by and the inhibitions are lowered, you’ll witness a gradual migration from the tables towards the dance floor, as people begin to party to the mix of House, Classics, R’n’B and Pop.

Expect a truly eclectic crowd when heading to Floripa, where despite a difference in intentions, everybody is there to have a good time. From office workers, trendies, and those on date nights, the venue’s authentic feel and alluring nature is its unifying factor. Just don’t expect it to be a quiet night out.

Dining tables make way for an improvised dancing space where everyone throws some shapes until late.

The Food & Drink

One of Floripa’s appealing points is its renowned cuisine, and it didn’t disappoint. Starting off with superb chicken skewers, my main was a medium rare South American rib eye steak that was cooked to perfection (one of the best steaks I’ve had in London actually) finished off with a melt-in-the-mouth chocolate fondue.

In terms of drinks, they boast a vast selection of beverages to choose from, notably a diverse and extensive cocktail list. I ordered an expertly mixed Mojito (which came in three different options) along with a fine Merlot, which perfectly complimented the meal.

You can expect a night laced with colourful and vibrant cocktails at Floripa.

Summary

Floripa is a charming, distinct and above all, incredibly entertaining setting that promises a lot on paper and duly delivers. A tropical gem which manages to tailor to a plethora of needs, it’s an amiable and hospitable atmosphere, whose buoyant vibes are infectious. Flamboyant yet humble, it’s a decadent sanctuary that brings a touch of flavour and colour to East London’s already thriving scene.
