Fetch me that flower; the herb I shew'd thee once.
The juice of it on sleeping eye-lids laid
Will make or man or woman madly dote
Upon the next live creature that it sees...
While we're not suggesting you start dosing up your friends with a weird, intoxicating liquid that makes them love everyone, we are suggesting you take them to this Midsummer Night's Dream pop up that will do it for you!
Ushering in a world of fantasy and mischief, this new quirky pop up at Swan, Shakespeare's Globe takes its inspiration from one of the bard's most famous plays. Located in the Balcony Room of the bar and restaurant, visitors can delight in fairy-tale decor - flowers, trees, toadstools and butterflies - alongside views of the river and some very curious edible treats based on references from the play.
During the daytime, the pop up will play host to Titania's Tea Garden, an afternoon tea serving up an array of sweet and savoury bites, including wild mushroom quiche, violet and blackcurrant jam macaroons and mulberry scones. In the evenings however, the darker world rises in the form of Puck's Gin Emporium, where fans of both Shakespeare and cool cocktails can find their very own Love Potion. Made with Bombay gin, honey, prosecco, it is served alongside a tincture of blackberry juice that will turn the cocktail from milky-white to deep purple. A range of other concoctions will be on offer for those not wanting to trick their companions into falling in love with a donkey-man, and guests can sample a passionfruit and chilli martini, and the pop up's take on the Negroni, all made with fragrant and seasonal ingredients.
Midsummer Night's Dream runs everyday from the 23rd of July to the 2nd of September at Swan, Shakespeare’s Globe, 21 New Globe Walk, Bankside, London SE1 9DT. Titania's Tea Garden is available from 12pm-5pm and costs £35pp. Puck's Gin Emporium can be booked from 6.30pm-11pm.
