A trip to Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherds Bush may be described as many things but it is rarely magical. But that was before Bompas & Parr stepped in, creating a wonderful world of mermen, caves and cocktails hidden away in the shopping complex. Inspired by ancient Greek mythology, fairy tales and sci-fi, 'Beyond The Waterfall' is the group's most ambitious installation to date and has employed the use of mining consultants and structural engineers.
Looking to recapture the magic of Christmas, Harry Parr and Sam Bompas have created an adults-only grotto for the festive season. From sparkly, glittery mermen through to a trinket-filled room of spiralling seashells and vintage cabinets, the pop-up is taking you deep under the sea. Perhaps the most impressive part though is the lagoon built into a twinkly cave; clamber aboard a tiny rowing boat, paddle down the river, through a waterfall and enter the bar. Cocktails are also inspired by the ocean with flavours including Shipwreck Sour, Giant Squid Ink Margarita and Sea Air Sake.
While the pop-up ends on 23rd December, Bompas & Parr will undoubtedly be back with another incredible project before you know it, with past ventures including a crystal island on the roof of Selfridges through to an alcoholic-fog room in an ancient monastery.
Beyond The Waterfall takes place at Westfield in Shepherd's Bush and costs £15, which includes two cocktails and runs from 4-10pm, finishing on 23rd December 2016.
