Which London district doesn’t dream of the day the hipsters pitch up with their beards and their tattoos and their happenin’ ideas and turn it into ‘the place to be’?
Well dream no more Deptford, your fairy godmother has sprinkled some of her cooler-than-cool fairy dust on the South London region to transform 14 railway arches into Deptford Market Yard. Set to be fully open by October, the yard will play host to some of Deptford’s finest entrepreneurs; Little Nan will bring its bottomless cocktails and endless pick n mix to a permanent home and The Cheese Truck, purveyors of all things dairy, will be swapping wheels for arches.
As well as foodie places, several local designers will be setting up shop; mosey through hand-printed garments at Plain Bear or check out illustrated ceramics and tracksuits at Childsdraw. There’s even a barber, a barber who trained in France nonetheless - why are you still standing here? Quick, go, forget about mainstream Shoreditch and dull Dalston, Deptford has wrestled the flatcap from them both to be crowned the new hipster haven.
