It’s a Wednesday night in Stepney Green, I’m sweaty, scared and screaming, and, to be perfectly honest, I’m having a lovely time. We’re at Hyper Reality to see what East London’s latest VR experience has got to offer, and the short answer is: a whole lotta action.
If you’re the kind of person who likes the fun kind of anxiety, this is absolutely the place for you. Perched on a corner of Mile End Road the futuristic, cyperpunk-styled venue is offering a place of sanctuary for gamers and adrenaline junkies looking for a fix. Incorporating three separate gaming areas, alongside a subterranean karaoke room and cosy lounge kitted out with N64s and other consoles, the space is prepped and ready for group trips, date nights and is even available for whole venue bookings for those bigger bashes.
With a wealth of games to choose from, Hyper Reality is the gift that keeps on giving. My pal and I kick off with a jaunt around a virtual rollercoaster, before tackling goblins, evil wizards and a big old dragon with nothing but our wits (and a wand and a shield) to protect us. The real action happens during zombie shooter The Last Team where, if you are of a jumpy disposition, being beat on by a horde of the undead may put you at risk of throttling yourself with a headset cable. Luckily in such instances there are super-friendly staff on alert to untangle you and send you back off to your virtual doom.
