According to a recent article in The Telegraph, among millennials' greatest fears is an avocado shortage. As unbelievable as that clearly is, it's not quite as unbelievable as the news that Mexican spot Cantina Laredo are opening the UK's very first dedicated tequila and guacamole bar. Following a refurb, the Covent Garden spot is opening the bar as part of their already renowned restaurant. In house 'guacamaestros' will be on-hand to smash up the eight types of guacamole, which include variations with fried grasshoppers, blue cheese and crab meat.
Following a recent trip to Mexico, owners Tarryn and Dean Ginsburg are keen to showcase modern Central American dining rather than the Tex Mex version many people have become accustomed to. Along with the fresh and healthy range of guacamoles, the bar will also have a menu which includes the likes of aged ribeye with yellow habanero butter. To wash it all down there will be a selection of tequilas and mezcals; leave the salt and lime at home though, because this about sipping rather than slamming.
The dedicated guacamole and avocado bar will open at Cantina Laredo, 10 Upper St Martin's Lane, London, WC2H 9FB. Book a table here.
