Having been around for 50 years, Hyatt Regency are one of the most prominent hotel groups globally, with more than 200 locations in over 40 countries. Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill is one of their particularly celebrated destinations, a five-star hotel and dining destination that overlooks Portman Square, nestled among major tourist attractions like Oxford Street, Hyde Park and the West End. And while I can only dream of staying the night in this luxurious palace, I was lucky enough to be able to have dinner at their on-site restaurant The Montagu Kitchen.

DesignMyNight Review Of Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill: The Montagu Kitchen
The whole hotel is inspired by Winston Churchill, with paintings and subtle nods to his legacy throughout the restaurant. The all-day eatery is certainly spacious, spanning a huge dining area and an open kitchen, and we were led to a table right in front of the large windows that looked out over the square. We were made to feel at home immediately by the welcoming team, and we settled into the comfy armchairs for a hearty meal.
We ordered a bottle of the Château La Gordonne ‘Vérité Du Terroir‘ (£59) to start the evening, an organic French rosé with a sweet, fruity taste to it. This arrived shortly before a mouthwatering selection of nibbles, our favourite of which were the mac and cheese croquettes (£3.50). These were crispy balls of gooey, tangy cheese and pasta, topped with fine shavings of parmesan. These were paired with our own personal loaf of fresh rosemary and potato sourdough (£8), cut into wedges that we dipped into the array of whipped butter, tomato dip and olive oil with balsamic vinegar that it came with. This also went nicely with the generous portion of salty green olives (£6).
The Churchill menu uses top quality
seasonal British ingredients.
Each of our dishes arrived promptly, beginning with a winter salad (£19): a leafy combination of baby spinach, celery, apple and pecans, served in a subtle apple cider and Dijon mustard dressing that was lovely, but could have been slightly more flavourful. We shared this alongside an English burrata (£19), which popped open very satisfyingly to reveal a deliciously creamy centre, oozing out over a bed of juicy heritage tomatoes and black olive crumbs.
I kept up the cheesy theme with my main course, a pumpkin and ricotta ravioli (£25) that combined roasted pumpkin puree with mild ricotta, encased in pillowy pasta parcels. This was a more sizeable portion than you often get with ravioli, dressed with pumpkin seeds and an abundance of parmesan. My dinner date chose the pasture fed chicken breast (£29), a tender cut of meat drizzled in a rich chicken jus, nestled against a helping of king oyster and autumn field mushrooms, both whole and in a whipped puree form. He also ordered a side of mashed potatoes (£8), beautifully buttery and the perfect addition to the dish.
The Churchill London reviews all praise the quality of these dishes.
The Montagu Kitchen menu features only the finest of seasonal British produce, and this was evident across the meal. We had to sample some of their desserts to finish, the first being a baked vanilla cheesecake (£12). This had a light, creamy texture to it, topped with a mix of strawberries and blueberries and sat in a berry compote. Our second choice was the rich chocolate and caramel delice (£12), a perfectly rectangular slice that was split into neat layers of chocolate mousse, crispy hazelnut and caramel cream, with a scoop of salted caramel ice cream on the side.
