It's Tuesday night, and I've arrived at the luxurious London EDITION hotel on Berners Street to sample the new wine bar pop-up that has landed in their Basement Bar for the next twelve days, in anticipation of the RAW wine fair taking place in London for the fifth year this May.
Alongside the wine, there is a great selection of artisan charcuterie and cheese on offer from Berners Tavern, which they paired wonderfully with the different wines we sampled on Tuesday night. For lovers of fizz, I recommend the Italian Brut and the Beast from the Valli Unite winegrowers. For something a little different, they also have quite a selection of 'Orange Wines' which I must admit to never having tried previously. They generally produce a stronger, drier and slightly spicier taste than most whites, usually with a higher alcohol content. Try the orange Sauvignon Blanc from the Vinos Ambiz vineyards.
Pop down any night during the next two weeks to sample the delightful array of organic, small-scale produce offered up by Isabelle Legeron and the team at the London EDITION. The Basement Bar is a great space for this pop-up, much more intimate and less formal than the rest of the hotel. Isabelle and her team are incredibly welcoming and really want to encourage people to come and relax whilst sampling the carefully chosen selection of over 200 organic, low-intervention wines.
The RAW Wine Bar at the London EDITION is open between the 4th and 16th May 2016.
