If there's two things Knightsbridge is known for, it's high property prices and Harrods. And it was the latter that brought me to the area recently, in search of a midweek dinner.
Somewhere Cafe is the newest restaurant to come to the iconic department store, having opened in December 2024. The restaurant group has got seven acclaimed locations across the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, and this is their first outpost in the UK, bringing Middle Eastern flavours to the heart of London - inspired by the team's travels.
You wouldn't know this secluded spot is inside Harrods.
DesignMyNight Review Of Somewhere At Harrods
It took us a good ten minutes to track down the restaurant in the absolute maze that is Harrods, but eventually we found it tucked around a corner on the fourth floor. We were greeted at the entrance, before being whisked away into a private room that you wouldn't even know was inside a department store. The bright space was filled with colourful decor, from the vibrant orange walls to the shelves lined with Middle Eastern-inspired ornaments and cookbooks.
The drinks menu is entirely non-alcoholic, reflecting the cultural roots of the cuisine. This didn't limit the choices at all though, as there was a diverse range of beverages to choose from, both hot and cold. I went for an orange juice (£9), which was incredibly fresh and filled with juicy pulp. My dinner date decided on a refreshingly zingy lemon mocktail (£8), topped off with mint leaves and crushed ice.
The mocktails are as flavourful as the sharing plates here.
We were advised to try a little bit of everything, and we definitely did. You're encouraged to share here, with a range of small and large plates to enjoy. First up we ordered an eggplant moussaka (£16): a shredded aubergine mix served in its own crispy skin, topped with a tangy yoghurt, pine nut and crispy breadcrumb blend. We devoured this alongside two portions of hummus with fluffy flatbread, one original (£15) and one guacamole (£19), both of which had a smooth consistency. The two dips were absolutely delicious, but the guacamole version just took the edge for me, as it had a fresh avocado taste that I adored.
There was a whole lot more to come, and we couldn't get enough. Our lime corn salad (£19) was a particular highlight, a beautifully zesty mix of hot charred corn, salty green olives and cubes of feta, on a bed of crunchy leaves. Next was the chicken shawarma bao (£17), tender, spicy meat served in mini flatbread-style buns with shredded vegetables.
Try a bit of everything on the Somewhere Harrods menu.
Last but not least, we shared two of their fatteh dishes - a traditional Egyptian and Levantine meal that features spiced chickpeas, pitta chips and a tahini yoghurt sauce. The first of these creamy concoctions was the aubergine (£23), topped with crisp shoestring fries, and the second was a fiery chicken jalapeno (£21) option that was finished with salt and vinegar chips.
Somewhere At Harrods: Overall
I was hugely impressed with Somewhere cafe at Harrods. You wouldn't know you were dining in a shop, as the secluded space felt like a truly exclusive dining experience in a relaxed setting. Make sure you come hungry, as the portions are huge, but everything is well worth a try. Their extensive menu offers something for every occasion, and their hummus selection is second to none. What's more, the menu is entirely halal too.
