When Hilton Bankside invited me to check out their latest meeting room, I was dubious to say the least. Meeting rooms don't have a great track record; pale prisons that promote a drag on inspiration, I find the bread aisle in a supermarket more energising.
That was until Bompas & Parr got their hands on one.
While notorious for turning London landmarks into jelly and (more recently) transforming the basement of Westfield into a cocktail playfround for pirates, Bompas & Parr know a thing or two when it comes to turning heads. So how does The Agora fare? A multi-sensory experience is at the heart of this meeting room. Not only does a 'push for creativity' button burst oxygen into the space for a quick fix, everything from the tea menu and adjustable light levels to powder pink tones encourage ideas to flow. What I think also helps? It's one of the most beautiful meeting rooms in the biz.
But it's not just meeting rooms where Hilton Bankside has been focusing its creative energy. Their on-site restaurant has seen an overhaul as of recent; while their interiors have stayed the same (papier mache frogs and fauna can still be found strewn across wooden paneling), the menu has given gastro cuisine a bit of gumption. When I wasn't gushing over Marmite bread (all good roads lead to bread infused with Marmite), I was tucking into a deconstructed courgette tart with caramelised onion (slightly overpriced at £9) that didn't skimp on twang thanks to a level amount of sauerkraut. Their vegan menu isn't shy either, with everything from onion and marjoram croquettes to scallion maki making the cut.
Hilton London Bankside can be found at 2-8 Great Suffolk St, London SE1 0UG.
