Our Review Of TOZI Pizzeria & Cicchetti Bar: Venetian Small Plates And Pizzas At Battersea Power Station

High-end fashion, a sky-high lift with 360-degree views and a striking exterior - these are just some of the things that Battersea Power Station is known for. But one of its more hidden gems is TOZI Pizzeria & Cicchetti Bar, a stylish Italian restaurant that makes up part of art'otel London Battersea. This was the very reason that I found myself strolling down Electric Boulevard on a Friday night, eager to try the Neapolitan pizzas and traditional small plates that I had seen popping up on my social media feed.

Laid-back interiors and colourful artwork make TOZI's Battersea outpost a great choice for all occasions.

DesignMyNight Review Of TOZI Battersea

Upon stepping into the sleek, minimalist restaurant, we were greeted and led to a cosy booth table right by the floor-to-ceiling windows. These offered a great view of the hustle and bustle outside, as well as an al fresco dining area that I imagine would be packed on a warmer night. The interiors were made up of mainly dark tones, from the black marble tables to the industrial metal features, though there were a few pops of colour from the bright red bar and striking pieces by Spanish artist Jaime Hayon.

The signature cocktails were calling to us as soon as we sat down, and my choice was the Venetian Spritz (£14). This was a vodka-based concoction that combined pink peppercorn with grapefruit, peach and jasmine soda, topped off by prosecco rose. My partner went for a Signora Elena (£14), which was made up of Amaro Montenegro, Altos Olmeca Blanco, honey and lime, finished with a zesty foam.

Signature cocktails and small plates make up the TOZI menu.

A prominent feature of the TOZI Battersea menu is cicchetti, small sharing dishes that are served as soon as they're ready - originating from Venice. We picked two of these to start, the first being an aubergine parmigiana (£13). This was a beautifully tender, layered aubergine dish encased in a rich tomato sauce and shavings of parmesan. This was very flavourful, with a crispy texture on top, though in my opinion it could have been more cheesy as it was mainly the tomato that came through. Our second choice was zucchini fritti (£8), and we received a huge mound of these, crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle with a tangy parmesan coating.

Though there were a small selection of pasta dishes, their pizza is really the main event. We ordered a margherita (£14), because you just can't beat the classics, and it didn't disappoint with its San Marzano tomato base and just the right amount of stretchy fior di latte mozzarella. We paired this with a black truffle (£19), a white pizza that was topped with a generous amount of truffle mascarpone, mozzarella, and portobello mushrooms.

Both pizzas had a thick, fluffy dough, and we dipped the crusts in both garlic and herb and pesto and sun-dried tomato dips (£2 each). The former was a gorgeously creamy sauce that complemented the meal perfectly, although unfortunately we both found that the pesto option was too bitter for us.

Authentic Italian pizzas are the main appeal of TOZI Pizzeria & Cicchetti Bar.

Though the pizzas were pretty filling, we managed to find room for dessert. I ordered the orange chocolate tart (£6), featuring a thin but firm crust with a biscuit-like flavour, and a creamy, chocolate centre with a subtle orange taste to it. My boyfriend kept it simple with two scoops of vanilla ice cream (£2.50 per scoop), which was equally delicious.

TOZI Pizzeria & Cicchetti Bar: Overall

I've always wanted to end one of my trips to Battersea Power Station with a luxurious meal, and TOZI Pizzeria & Cicchetti Bar is a great choice of places to do that. A laid-back but sophisticated restaurant with a welcoming vibe, this authentic destination nails the Venetian tradition of cicchetti, and their pizzas are equally impressive. The menu lends itself to sharing, and I would highly recommend it either for date nights or large group meals.
