STEM + STEM

Eyeing up the best places to eat near Chancery Lane? How about trying STEM + STEM out for size? While not exactly located within the thick of it, it's only a short walk from the station and utterly worth it. It's a restaurant and a florist; a botanical beauty serving up sustainable British produce and pretty bouquets all under one roof. Gather your friends for a midday meal and feast on the likes of seabream tartare with a smoked eel emulsion, tempura stuffed courgette flower with goat's curd and English summer honey, plus Eton Mess for dessert.

Cigalon

Cigalon is a restaurant on Chancery Lane offering contemporary French fare in a stunning space that used to be an auction house. It features a double-height and glass-ceilinged dining room, elegant foliage, and neutral tones, and can seat up to 68 people in its banquette-style seating and cosy booths. At the forefront of the kitchen is chef Julien Carlon who creates Provençal dishes like côte de veau and salade Niçoise. Visit for lunch or dinner and enjoy two courses for £37 or three for £42.50, as well as a la carte plates of ceps and roasted shallots risotto, or roasted pork belly with celeriac and plums. Afterwards, head downstairs to the cool cocktail bar Baranis for a tipple or two.

The Fable

The Fable is a dining spot that can be found between Chancery Lane and St Paul's, drawing upon all things magical in the form of floral interiors and twinkling lights. The restaurant is inspired by the fables of Aesop and is spread over three floors, with a floor-to-ceiling window that gazes out across the Holborn Viaduct. Tuck into a seasonal menu packed with small plates, sharing platters and larger dishes like Goan curry, burrata and truffle tortelloni, and flash grilled minute steak served with béarnaise sauce and chips.

BrewDog Chancery Lane

You can guarantee affordable eats and a great selection of pints (24 taps of craft beer, to be exact) at BrewDog Chancery Lane. The outpost features its usual industrial-style decor paired with neon signage, as well as some cool leather booths to cosy up in and tuck into loaded fries. Chow down on Buffalo chicken wings with a blue cheese dip, or Temple of Seitan chick'n wings as a plant-based option, then hit up the darts and pool table afterwards (unless you're sticking around for deep-fried Oreos, that is).

El Vino Fleet Street

El Vino Fleet Street is a Chancery Lane restaurant offering everything from glasses of red supplied by Davy's Wine Merchants (hand-selected by James Davy himself) to locally sourced small plates and sandwiches. The venue famously used to be visited by high-profile journalists as many national newspapers were based nearby. Join the eatery for tapas-style dishes like minted lamb kabob with lemon coriander houmous and pitta, Padron peppers, and duck liver pâté, finished off with Pedro Ximénez's affogato.

Gaucho Chancery Lane

Whether you're passing through on your way to the theatre or just finishing work, be sure to check out Gaucho, the Argentinian steak restaurant boasting arched windows and sleek interiors. Devour Latin-inspired fare in the form of Argentinian, premium Black-Angus cattle from hand-selected farms, and soak up a lively ambience with a glass of wine in hand. On the menu? Chorizo sirloin served with crackling, steak tartare, sea bass ceviche and empanadas, followed by a signature Wagyu Martini with burnt lemon oil or a Miso Mango Sour to wash it all down.

Colonel Saab

Wondering where to eat near Chancery Lane? Well, sit under dazzling chandeliers, surrounded by vibrant plates and ox-blood walls, and delve into a world of fine Indian cuisine at Colonel Saab. Perched between Holborn and Covent Garden, the pretty restaurant is made up of museum-worthy artefacts and gorgeous antiques. The menu is curated by best-selling food author Karen Anand, with signature plates including Jaipuri baby aloo, noor mahal chicken tikka and prawn chimichurri. If you can't decide what to get, opt for a £75 tasting menu which includes a delicious raspberry, pistachio and coconut tart for dessert.

The Last Judgment is the flagship London pub of the Berkley Inns, located in a former bank in the heart of Chancery Lane. As soon as you enter, you'll be stunned by high, gold ceilings, chandeliers and dark furnishings. While the alfresco dining spot is perfect for summer months, its inside welcomes cooler spells thanks to its cosy sofas and warm lighting. Visit with your friends or plan a dinner date and look forward to tucking into seasonal small plates such as chorizo Scotch eggs, prawn lollipops and grilled chicken skewers. There's Cornish roast cod or 12-hour braised ox cheek for mains too, plus sticky toffee ginger cake pudding for dessert.
