We're bringing back SHORTIES to RSA House.

On Friday 20 September we'll be screening films all made by women, all different genres and themes with a multitude of powerful messages. Line-up to be announced.

Your ticket will include a welcome drink on arrival where you'll be invited to claim your industry title with a badge - this could be; Director, Producer, Writer, Designer or Camera. This will help aid and direct networking with other women working in film - Shorties is where you can meet your film making tribe! The night will then conclude with an open conversation with the creators of the short's and you'll have your chance to ask questions and get involved.

What you'll be watching:

Tales of Courage by Drüe Bisley: A tale of self-discovery, growth, and the healing power of dance.

Tales Of Courage follows Harriet's journey through her voice and choreography. Told in three parts, we begin with Harriet at a point where she feels trapped, vulnerable, and disconnected from herself. While seeking to escape her situation, she discovers pole dancing, which transforms her both mentally and physically through her practice. With the pole as her anchor, Harriet finds a way to heal through expressive movement and trust in the process - channelling both her vulnerability and newfound strength. Meditative, purposeful, cleansing, and transformative, Harriet creates pathways for herself to feel deeply in a space where she and the pole become one.

Girls Room by Tracey Lopez: The Girl's Room is a coming-of-age short film that takes place in the backdrop of 2000s inner city London.

Set in the bedroom shared by three sisters in their teens, we follow them over the course of a transformative summer.

Written & Directed by Tracey Lopez. Starring BAFTA Rising Star award winner Bukky Bakray. Produced by Pulse Films & BFI Network.

The film has been officially selected to screen at the BFI London Film Festival, Aesthetica Short Film Festival and Norwich Film Festival 2023.

The Girls' Room won the Best Screenplay award at BAFTA recognised S.O.U.L Film Festival 2023.

The Sweetness of Garlic or How I Stopped Lying and Learnt to Love My Job b Ray.S

THE SWEETNESS OF GARLIC OR HOW I STOPPED LYING AND LEARNT TO LOVE MY JOB is a restaurant disaster movie about the horrors of waitressing. The film was made over 4 days as an MA graduate film from LCC, and would not have been possible without its incredible cast and crew 3

Akimbo by Natasha Chloe Biggs: Four guys, a shitty car, and a pyromaniac.

Akimbo is a buddy comedy caper that dives straight into the action. This film was directed by Natasha Biggs, co-written by Natasha Biggs, co-written by Natasha Biggs and Tommy Tancock and co-produced with Devils Avocado.

The Golden Post Box by Julia Mervis: An ode to a postbox painted gold, and the mood that birthed it.

The Golden Postbox is a tender picture of the trials and tribulations of a postbox in Sheffield's city centre. Illustriously painted gold in the peak of 2012, the postbox has bore witness to a changed world, along with the slow encroachment of the Wetherspoons next-door. This wry micro-documentary investigates what the postbox means for people today, and whether everything is just sort of shit. The Golden Postbox was shot in 1 day on a 2012 camcorder as a commission for the 2024 Filmmaker Challenge at Sheffield Doc Fest.

About SHORTIES

SHORTIES is not just an opportunity, but a ground breaking platform that empowers and celebrates the talents of female short film makers. It aims to amplify their voices and showcase their exceptional work on the grandest stage of all - the big screen. With a glaring gender disparity exhibited in mainstream award nominations, SHORTIES sweeps in to bridge this gap and challenge traditional norms. It is a powerful movement that creates an inclusive space where like-minded female creatives can gather, connect, and collaborate, starting from the very grassroots of the industry. No longer will the film industry remain an exclusive boys club; SHORTIES is here to revolutionise and champion talented female filmmakers.

As well as screening a diverse range of short films, our organisation prides itself on creating an immersive and interactive experience for our audience. One of the ways we achieve this is by hosting engaging Q&A sessions and thought-provoking discussions, expertly mediated by the esteemed Lois Brabin Platt. With her exceptional skills as a mediator, Lois encourages a panel of accomplished female professionals to take the stage, providing a platform for them to discuss their personal journeys and share their invaluable insights into the ever-evolving industry. This unique approach not only fosters a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by women in the industry but also empowers our audience with knowledge and inspiration to pursue their own passions and dreams within the field.
