In recent weeks, London's restaurant scene has hit a brick wall, but in 'news that's make us a little happier in 2020', Attawa in Dalston has just announced their opening. Located on Kingsland High Street, the new restaurant is focussing on food from the Punjab region of Northern India with a little help from a pro, namely 2019 MasterChef: The Professionals semi-finalist Arbinder Duggal.
Having their own restaurant has long been the dream of owners Ravinder and Amar Madhray, who emigrated to London in the 1970s and finally took the plunge this year, naming the space after a family village in India. Working with Duggal, the husband and wife team have created a menu full of traditional and modern recipes that showcase the region's incredible food heritage, with dishes such as Amritsa Khatta Ladoo (fried lentil dumplings), Punjabi Chicken Kari (a traditional chicken dish), and Tandoor Lamb Sheek. And while you can't quite head in to see the marble counter tops and airy space just yet, the concise menu is available for take-away and delivery, Wednesday - Sunday.
