We're all a bit of a sucker for a G&T - and Carom know this weakness all too well. After the success of their secret botanical gin garden, they've teamed up with Tanqueray to transform their atrium into a Chai Tea Light Lounge in celebration of Diwali, the Hindu festival of light.
Laucnhing on the 1st November, the atrium will be lit by an enchanting array of lanterns and candles, reflected in the antiqued silver wallpaper that line the alcoves, to create a pool of soft lighting throughout the space. Combined with vintage armchairs, comfortable seating and the delicious aroma of spiced chai, the atrium will come to exist as a relaxed and indulgent space, in which to take in the many sensory offerings.
Bar Manager Adam Spinks has put together a selection of tea-infused, Tanqueray gin cocktails, all of which are inspirated by herbs and spices typical of chai, and the distinctly vibrant infusions within the Tanqueray blend. Guests can sample the Basil Spice Collins, made with Tanqueray gin, fresh basil, black pepper, honey, lime and soda served in a balloon glass, or alternatively, the Ginger Chilli Tipple, which is a heady combination of fresh red chilli, lemon, ginger and cranberry, with orange curacao and Tanqueray gin served in a miniature teapot and cup. Executive Chef Vishnu Natarajan has also created a special pairing menu, should guests find themselves a little bit peckish.
Award-winning Kolkatan street-food purveyor and cult chai tea maker, Angus Doonan, will be dropping by the Tea Light Lounge to man the Everybody Love Love Wandering Star Tonic Bar, from which he will whip up fresh chai tea potions and infusions using authentic Indian spices that inspire the complementary cocktail list. On offer will be a selection of tea blends, infused with barks, fruits, seeds and stems to open the mind and quicken the heart.
The Tea Light Lounge will be launched at Carom on 1st November 2013 until February 2014. Carom can be found at 100 Wardour Street, London, W1F 0TN.
