The Newman Arms is independently owned and operated by Big Penny who sell a range of their beers alongside a range of rotating guest beers from the best independent brewers in the UK. The drinks menu also features a range of cocktails, curated wine list and spirits from a range of local distilleries so there's something for everyone.

Dating back to 1730, the Newman Arms has been frequented regularly by a number of famous characters over the years, including George Orwell and Dylan Thomas. George Orwell even based the “Proles” pub in his dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four on The Newman’s and it featured again in his Keep the Aspidistra Flying. The pub also featured in a scene in Michael Powell’s film Peeping Tom.
