A brand new neighbourhood boozer for Essex Road, The Alpaca is bringing 'proper pub' energy to the Islington enclave. Taking over from The New Rose, the venue is an independent venture from long-time pub bod Lucas Owen, who is looking to return the site to its former glory, but with a whole new lease of life.
Offering a contemporary take on the traditional public house, The Alpaca's drinks list will maintain a focus on cask ales, craft beers and local brews. The food menu too will look to neighbourhood producers, with the Steve Hatt fishmongers next door already on board as a supplier.
The bar will also boast a backyard beer garden, perfect for when the weather finally starts to take a turn for the better - which should hopefully coincide with their opening at the beginning of March - alongside an upstairs function room available for community events, comedy and quiz nights.
