GOOD SHIP COMEDY IS SAILING OUT EAST FOR THE FIRST TIME TO BRING SOME OF THE FINEST HEADLINERS IN THE LAND TO LEYTONSTONE!
RHYS JAMES
Rhys James is an accomplished comedian, writer and actor who you will have seen on ‘Roast Battle’, ‘A League of Their Own’ and ‘Live At The Apollo’ and as a regular panellist on ‘Mock The Week’.
He has had three BBC Radio 4 series, ‘Rhys James is…’, ‘Rhys James Isn’t…’ and ‘Rhysearch’, all met with great acclaim and delight of listeners and critics. Rhys also hosts podcast ‘Early Work’ in which he interviews celebrities about the creative writing they did before they were in their current vocation, guests include O-T Fagbenle, Sara Pascoe, Lolly Adefope and Tom Rosenthal. As a live act, he has performed six solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe to critical acclaim, frequently featuring in the festival's 'Best Reviewed Shows' list.
He is also known for his prolific Twitter feed which has been recommended in The Telegraph, The Sun, Huffington Post, The Poke and The Gentleman’s Journal among others.
"Scintillating stand-up." The Times
“An immaculately crafted set… crowd-pleasing, relatable entertainment rarely comes any sharper.” Evening Standard
"Master of the lightning-paced, gag-dense, precision-delivered set" The Guardian
STEVE BUGEJA
Steve Bugeja is one of the circuit’s most exciting comedians. Steve hosted the BBC Radio 4 series Economics with Subtitles and has made numerous appearances on TV shows including The Russell Howard Hour, Love Island: Aftersun and ITV2’s hit sitcom Buffering which he also co-wrote.
A prolific writer, Steve was a key member of the writing team for The Russell Howard Hour and for Iain Stirling’s CelebAbility and has contributed material to Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats and BBC Radio 4.
“Plentiful jokes and compelling storytelling.” The Scotsman
“Bugeja has an eye for original comic detail that’s all his own.” The Guardian
Sharon Wanjohi is an up and coming stand up comedian with a varied act ranging from shock to absurd comedy. A Chortle Student Comedy Award Finalist and Funny Women Stage Award Finalist, she talks maybe too much about children's films and the cartoon dilfs that inspired a generation of sexual awakenings. And she thinks Ratatouille is a commentary on race.
In 2022 Sharon featured in the Channel 4 online series Jokes Only A … Can Tell and The Big Breakfast. In 2023 Sharon presented a section on The Laura Whitmore Breakfast Show, features on fifth series of ITV’s The Stand Up Sketch Show and Comedy Central Live.
"A spark in her performance…….. memorable zingers, she’s witty and engaging company." Chortle
AND YOUR RESIDENT HOST:
BEN VAN DER VELDE
One of the quickest wits around and a much-loved compere, he always brings a jam-packed back of nonsense, silliness and wisecracks to every gig he hosts.
"Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue." Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
“The perfect comedy club host – he is a master of audience interaction. The audience weren’t just warmed up, but pretty hysterical even before the first act of the night hit the stage.” Huffington Post
