Description
Rolling three seemingly disparate elements into one handy bundle, The Amersham Arms is a friendly New Cross bar with a creative edge, hosting everything from secret gigs to cabaret, comedy, film, theatre and up-and-coming guest DJs.
Out front, the venue appears to be a traditional London pub serving great food and drink. However, step on through to the back to uncover a 300 capacity area which is fully equipped for bands and DJs to take to the stage. The low key nature means that it's popular with famous comedians looking to hone their material in front of a slightly smaller crowd.
Trudge up the stairs and you'll find yourself in the Take Courage art gallery which is packed with work from both new and established artists as well a comfy sofa area. This fashionably eclectic and shabby feel is channeled throughout the rest of this Victorian pub with its walls covered in posters and photos, scruffy armchairs and vintage lampshades. A great hangout.
