It was a hot summer’s day, and I couldn’t wait to have a much-deserved, post-work drink with my colleagues – so we headed to The Fox in Shoreditch. This quirky boozer is loved by the after-work crowd, not just for its convenient location (on Paul Street, a short walk from Old Street and Great Eastern Street) but also because of its quirky charm, secret roof terrace and now, of course, its snazzy private karaoke room.
Though you’ll find droves of thirsty punters filling the street just outside when the weather’s warm, the interior is also wonderful and inviting, with traditional pub decor, like hardwood floors, retro tiles and old school bar stools, spread across two floors. After kicking the heat with a crisp bottle of rose, we headed up to the Karaoke Den on the top floor of the pub (thankfully far from prying ears). Big enough for up to 20 wannabe singers, it was also perfect for our intimate group of 5, and surprisingly plush for a refurbished room in a pub.
It was painted a delicious, rich pink, boasting velvet booths, black marble tables, geometric floors, neon signs and a glittering disco ball. The song selection system was also high-tech, with a long, strong list of hits to choose from – showcasing everything from retro tunes to modern-day favourites and West End hits. I have to say - I'm not usually a fan of karaoke, but after all the fun I had here, I'm now a changed woman.
Once we'd sung our hearts out, we unanimously agreed it was time for another drink. Due to the unforgiving heat, we settled on a few more bottles of that gorgeous rose to cool us off before moving on to the food menu. The kitchen is helmed by an Asian-inspired pop-up residency, with quirky, modern takes on classic plates; the K-Pop chicken wings were perfectly cooked, juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, doused in a sticky, spicy sauce – the chicken karaage was equally as delicious, flavoured with soy and kombu. Though the tofu banh mi wasn’t a huge hit with our crowd, the katsu waffle fries were devoured within minutes.

We had so much fun at The Fox - it had so much to offer, from its cosy, traditional interior to its rooftop terrace and of course its quirky karaoke room. We had an absolute belter singing (or more correctly, screaming) out Kate Nash, Queen and Beyonce classics. Plus, the Asian-inspired menu was the perfect accompaniment to an evening of fun, with tasty sharing plates offering an alternative to your usual pub grub. Word has it, we're already organising another work night out here...
📍 The location: 28 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4LB. 👌 Perfect for: Birthdays, hen dos, corporate socials and after-work fun. ⭐ Need to know: They've currently got a 50% off offer on their karaoke room on specific days. |
