What they say:
Hippo Inns (Lillie Langtree and The Duke of Sussex) are working their restorative magic in Angel, transforming what was once Round Midnight into The Islington Townhouse. Spread over three floors, the pub is a series of eclectic nooks and crannies and grand dining spaces, with an upstairs section available for private hire. Food is sourced from British suppliers and includes a selection of charcuterie from Suffolk, while beer has all the London favourites such as Beavertown and Redchurch Brewery ales.
What we say:
If you've ever visited Islington or Angel, you will know the place is awash with twee and eclectic pubs, and contending is going to be a tough job. We think The Islington Townhouse is in with a fighting chance, especially given the quality of food and the affordable prices. Burgers and fish and chips are both £6, and the sharing plates have delicious looking dinners such as 35-day aged fillet steak tartare for £8.50 or a Venison kebab at £8. Add on to that a seriously cool interior including a chandelier made of TUC crackers and a mannequin covered in newspapers and you've got yourself the next big player on the Islington pub scene.
