Internet sensations don't always make for the most reliable real-life enterprises in the restaurant world (looking at you Salt Bae), but forthcoming Balham spot Trap Kitchen is proving the opposite.
Starting life as a mouthwatering feed from South London home cook Prince Cofie Owusu - or Shakka - the food was soon coming off the screen and into people's faces as the chef began selling heaving boxes of lobster, corn, fried chicken and mac 'n' cheese directly out of his mum's Camberwell flat. What happened next was a maelstrom of pop-ups, celebrity fans and an appearance on the BBC's Million Pound Menu that saw Shakka and co. finally setting up their first bricks-and-mortar shop in Manchester in 2018.
Now Trap Kitchen has come home to roost in South London, nabbing a location on Bedford Hill. While the food is served on plates rather than takeaway boxes these days, the Trap Kitchen ethos remains the same and those hefty servings of lobster, snow crab, chicken, macaroni and waffles still look ready to bust your guts. Just be ready to wait for your table, because their 110k followers are certainly keeping them busy.
